Beef from Devon Ruby Red cattle is noted for tenderness, being well marbled and full flavoured; Sladesdown Farm meat is reared in the traditional way and is hung for a minimum of 3 weeks, reducing the water content and producing the darker colour expected and much sought after in traditionally naturally farmed meat.

Sladesdown Farm Poultry

Their poultry is grown and finished on non GM natural feed with no added growth stimulants or antibiotics. Their birds graze on a variant of grasses, vetches and other brassicas which gives them their unique flavour.

With their own modern processing facility on the farm, Sladesdown Farm Poultry is oven ready with giblets included and with no preservatives or artificial basting ingredients.

Much of this is or soon will be planted up as agroforestry – which essentially means planting wood, fruit or nut trees in the fields. This not only enhances productivity but encourages biodiversity by allowing wildlife (plants, animals and insects) to make a home in the wide, unploughed strips between the trees.

They also rent an additional 400 acres on nearby farms. On some we grow arable crops and others we keep as wildflower meadows, which we use for conservation grazing. Each element sustains another and our aim is eventually to produce everything we need without having to rely on external inputs or unnecessary transport.

Haye Farm work with different producers and partners. These include pork and dairy from Challon’s Combe Organics; chicken from Otter Valley Poultry and beer from their very own brewery, Gilt & Flint.

The Cheese Shed café at Nettlebed Creamery welcomes walkers, cyclists, families, and dogs to pop in and choose from their cheese toasties made with our award-winning cheese (of course); kefir smoothies, ice cream; cakes and snacks; and Horsebox coffee made with their own unhomogenised, organic milk.

There’s a Farm Shop in The Cheese Shed where customers can buy the creamery’s own organic cheese, milk and kefir along with bread, eggs, honey, pickles, crackers and lots more.

Nettlebed Creamery supports the local community having partnerships with Style Acre, a charity providing support for young people with learning disabilities, and HMP Huntercombe. As part of their rehabilitation programme of appropriate candidates, they provide employment for up to three offenders.
